30 people have been confirmed dead by youths in Kodomun, Adamawa state
The Adamawa State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Ghazzali, has also been criticised by indigenes of the community over his handling of the matter.
Ghazzali, on Monday, August 1, 2016, said that no life was lost, when he visited the area after the attacks.
The Adamawa police boss explained why he did not deploy policemen to Kodomun saying “My
men were on the ground. We would not risk our men to be there just to
give security to one side so that the other side will not think we have
taken side with one side.
“There are two
different people involved in these clashes: the herdsmen and the
farmers. And we have to be very careful in handling such type of
communal clashes.”
Expressing his displeasure, the traditional ruler of the area, the Hama Bata, His Royal Highness Alhamdu Teneke, said “A
lot of people have been killed. Today they would go and see for
themselves the corpses of those slain in the attacks some of which they
would find in the town and those yet to be brought in lying in the
bush.”
The Nigerian Army recently
announced that it will commence a joint force operation with other
security agencies to curb the menace of the Fulani herdsmen.
